How to write an ebook, from start to finish

Ebooks are very popular today, both as marketing vehicles and as products. Ebooks provide just about everyone with an opportunity to increase traffic, search engine rankings and sales in one fell swoop. If you think you don’t have anything to write about, think again. Rare is the individual who does not have some specialized knowledge that others do not. If you’re interested in making use of ebooks, for any purpose, on your website, here’s how to write an ebook that flies off your website. Let’s begin by summarizing the basic approach to writing an ebook.

The substance of your website is certainly a topic you know well. You naturally want to make the subject of your ebook relevant to your audience. You also want your reader to receive content that’s useful. This may seem obvious, but there’s many an ebook distributed which is merely a thinly disguised marketing campaign, with just snippets of information. This is guaranteed to turn off your reader. So, pack your ebook with solid information. So, now on to the mechanics of how to write an ebook.

1.Prepare an outline of your ebook. Decide on a title for your ebook, even if it’s tentative. Having a title keeps you focused on saying what you have to say. Let’s say you have a DIY website, specializing in the how-to’s of garden landscaping. Your topic is ‘How to Build a Stone Stairway’. Your outline might go something like this:

I. Advantages of Stone Garden Stairways
II. Photo Gallery of Stair Designs with commentary
III. Materials & Tools Required
… and so on

When your outline is prepared and each step is covered, you’re ready to tackle the most difficult task in how to write an ebook.

2.Begin to write! If your outline is solid and complete, it’s a simple matter of filling in the blanks. Give your reader every useful detail you know, so that they can successfully build their stone stairway.

3.When you’ve got your first draft complete, it’s time to edit. Give it a rest for a few days. You’re more likely to notice discrepancies and omissions when you’re taking a fresh look. Make any changes, whether they are grammatical corrections or reorganization of the material. When you’re satisfied, set it aside for a day or so and then re-read your ebook. It’s also a good idea to have your ebook reviewed by a professional editor or friend with a good eye for detail. Make your final copy.

4.If you’re good with graphics software, design an appealing cover. You can also go with a plain Jane look – it is free!

5.Convert your file to a .pdf format. Most newer word processors have this function built in. There are also ebook compiler you can purchase.
