Major Depression and How to Come Out of It
major depression
There are some people who are naturally happy, and it takes a lot to get them to feel down. They may experience many of life’s ups and downs feeling sad for a while, but they have an amazing ability to overcome and find happiness again. Others, on the other hand, may fall into a major depression for no reason that they can understand, and there are times when they can never come out of it. They often feel ashamed about it, but it’s not really something that is under their control. Depression is medical, and that means medical intervention is needed.
Simply telling someone with major depression to ‘snap out of it’ will not work, and will end up making them feel worse. This is not something that they can control, and if they had the choice, they would snap out of it. Even worse, when someone is feeling this way, they often start to shut out the people that care about them the most, and that leaves their friends and family wondering if they did anything wrong. They haven’t, but the major depression makes it hard to relate to anyone.
Some who have had major depression in their lives have said that even though people tell them that they care, they didn’t believe it. They felt worthless, and they thought they were no fun to be around. The most well meaning intentions can feel like something they are not. This leaves the person with major depression feeling worse, and it also makes those around them confused. Some friends will fall away, and that is simply because they don’t know what to do and how to act.
If you are in a major depression, you have to make sure you see someone for help. If you let the feelings of despair take over your life, you may end up taking your life. This is not something you should have to handle on your own, and your doctor will have some pretty simple solutions that may make you feel better again before you know it. If you are not suffering from major depression, but you know someone who is, do your best to be there for them, even when they don’t act like they want you around, and encourage them to see someone so they can start to feel human again. They may fight you, but if you care about them, you have to be strong for them even when they seem to be rejecting you.
