Spiritual Movies

I have always thought that the best movies do more than just simply entertain. A good movie will inspire its viewers to live a more enlightened, perfect existence. That is why I have always loved watching spiritual movies better than some of the cheap Hollywood thrills that I occasionally indulge in. a spiritual movie doesn’t necessarily have to be one that is designed by some sort of religious group. Spirituality is everyone’s property, and so anyone who is inspired by higher and more beautiful things in nature can make a religious film. As long as it is designed to inspire people to be better, kinder, more tolerant people, it qualifies in my book.

For me, some of the most spiritual movies are actually Hollywood blockbusters. For example, there is quite a bit that is spiritual about the Star Wars movies. They deal with an ageless question – the struggle of good versus evil. Unlike many more simpleminded films, however, the Star Wars movies have a message that redemption is available to anyone. Even Darth Vader, through the intercession of Luke Skywalker, is able to become a good guy in the end.

Of course, some spiritual videos are more narrowly targeted. One thing that I found interesting is how spiritual movies can teach specific religious truths that may be hard to understand through a book. Sometimes, just seeing a spiritual leader speaking to you on the screen is enough to help you break through that last boundary of misunderstanding and really get what they’re explaining. It has a lot to do with the way the movie sets the tone too. Having gentle, spiritual music, beautiful images, and just the right flow will help your mind to understand things that might be difficult to get otherwise.

Some of my favorite spiritual movies are the more pragmatic ones. I’ve been using guided meditation videos for about six months now, and I have to say that they have really helped me. Sometimes, it is difficult to get into the right mindset to meditate by yourself. Having spiritual movies where wise teachers are able to talk me through it really makes it a lot easier for me. Even when I start watching these movies a lot, they usually continue to work for me for quite a while. When I get tired of the same old guided meditation film, I can always go out and get another one and give that one a rest for a while. My library of spiritual movies has gotten quite extensive, as you might imagine, So I have plenty of choices of different meditations to use. It is nice to see that technology can actually be used to bring us closer to the spirit.
